Alternative Christmas In Hebden Bridge

Tomorrow marks the six months since the Boxing day floods and in true Hebden Bridge style the town is all set to celebrate an alternative Christmas.
It will bring together people from around the country who came and gave much needed help to many businesses and families.
It's good to have something to smile about as many more shops re open, although there are still quite a few with work still on going or awaiting work to begin.
There are many events planned across the weekend so if you are able to visit do come into town and get involved.
I have a few flowers from the allotment which is lovely and hat making continues in the new workroom with lots of new orders for weddings, which is fantastic and heart warming.

Have you spotted the Marshall & Snellgrove hat box ? It was given to me by a lady in Halifax which was a real surprise and a much loved gift. I think it belonged to a family member and they wanted it to go to a good home. I've found a blog that gives a few details about the department store and a picture of an original label too.
I made a quick alternative Christmas tree with wine glasses, baubles and a little greenery.

Lets celebrate the good of a little town full of creative people.

Emma & Jobi's Wedding

Emma came to look for her wedding headdress whilst my shop was waiting to be renovated after the Boxing day floods.
So that nothing should happen to her vintage gown I laid towels down on the floor and she stood in front of the mirror trying on different styles.
As my stock was being stored on several levels of my house she waited whilst I found my vintage petersham ribbons and made her an example of something I felt would be the perfect partner for her gown.
Her dress was incredible, floor length, beaded and fringed. The dress was still in perfect condition as was the label, in fact it looked as though it had just been taken out of it's tissue for the first time.
All she knew was that it had been made in the U.S.A. possibly early 1960's.
However finding a headpiece that worked with it was tricky, but once I suggested the rich nutmeg Emma knew straight away it was what she wanted.
Emma and Jobi were married just a few weeks ago and here are a few images of their special day.
Fab isnt it?

Getting Back To Normal

These last two weeks have flown past since I re opened. It's been a while since I had a moment to blog but I just kept taking pictures to document progress and be able to share them.
After much cleaning, painting of furniture, sourcing of new items and making decisions about 'everything' the shop and workroom are really shaping up. There's still a few snagging jobs to finish and a set of lights to buy for the workroom, but basically it's FINISHED !

With lots of new products and gorgeous new fabrics to cut into it's a joy to come down to work, even though I'm not quite sure where everything is yet.

Thank you to everyone who came and helped me celebrate and of course if you couldn't make it you are still very welcome to pop in anytime. Sadly all the pimms has long gone but there's always tea or coffee.

I hope you like the new look of the shop. It feels like an entirely new space, the workroom is now more visible so you can see what's being made and has a new layout too.The need to keep tidy is alarming !

So now it's back to making. cutting and shaping with the odd bit of baking!
Let me know what you think.
